New Year’s Resolution

In Design on January 26, 2013 at 3:55 PM

One of my promises to myself this year was to make sure to document and share the work I do. Thus I have been scheduling photo shoots like a mad woman as well as trying to find the right platform for a new website – something mobile friendly, easily updated by me or mine rather than a team of specialists etc. But for now I thought I would just start posting stuff willy-nilly to my blog.

Here are a couple of shots from Wednesday’s shoot.

Story: Cute family expecting their third daughter. The first two daughters are heading into their tween – teen years and the parents wanted them to be excited about bunking-up in the same room together. Here is a BEFORE shot of the room:

Check out this firms site – Commute – I saw the plaster wall medallion installation on Remodelista this morning and then have spent the last half hour pouring over their site.

I love the wack Mr. Rogers aspect of the first two and the nostalgia of the second two. And the feeling of looking at life through a View Master.

Tony Hafkenscheid. They are a great size too! Stunning in a few of my current projects!

I have been lame in posting lately. Yes, I know! And I am sorry! I hope to have the proof of pay-off for my absence (results of yesterday’s photo shoot) later today, as my latest interior project (Heartland Cafe in West Seattle) is finally complete!

Here are some things that I found while doing some last minute shopping for the restaurant:

One of my latest fantasy’s is opening up a retail space / gallery / interiors office – and yes – I would call it “Take Out”.

I love this train depot filing cabinet with the roll top fronts – of course this would be just another place to store my thousands of loose paint chips. I like the chair too.

This is a nicely culled together piece – crates, metal shelving, heavy wire spokes, patina = wine rack.

And this piece (a twinkie mold) makes me want to bake!

What I did this weekend.

In Design, See on March 29, 2010 at 9:27 AM

After running all over town all week to pick up the necessary supplies, I was able to pin down my other half  (talented wood working designer husband) to help me piece together a frame for the soon to open Heartland Cafe in West Seattle.

As you may or may not know I have been working with the owners to develop the concept and design. And while I have not had full control, I have been able to get my way with a couple of things.  One being the “Ode To Mother” framing of an antique apron to be displayed as one half of the “American Gothic-esque” wall.  Budgets being what they are at the end of a project – I knew that the 1000.00 price tag of framing this large beauty was not going to cut it. And I knew that I would be soooo sad if this didn’t make it on the wall.  So I DIY’d it with some crown molding, gold leaf wax, coffee soaked burlap, gold headed pins and the essential help of the man. Thank You Thank You!

I would also like to state that the recent book reviewed in the NY Times about the homes of designers actually only details the lives of those designers living on Fantasy Island. My house on the other hand is a wreck – and what you don’t see in this picture – besides my cute little kiddo – is the havoc of the kitchen (which is U-G-L-Y), the 10 new windows waiting to be installed (Yes, that will our project next weekend) leaning against the wall in the living room, the under served and unfinished bathroom project (deemed “yucky” by a recent sleepover guest), and a child’s room that looks like it could be featured on the next episode of the Hoarders. Someday however, I do plan on moving to Fantasy Island.
